Roma Termini is Italy's busiest railway station and one of Europe's largest, handling approximately 150 million passengers per year with around 850 trains per day. Named after the nearby Baths of Diocletian (Latin: thermae), the station is located in the heart of Rome at Piazza dei Cinquecento. The station has 32 platforms in total. Platforms 1-24 are lined up next to the main concourse, numbered left to right (northeast to southwest) as you face the trains. Platform 1 is on the Via Marsala side, platform 24 on the Via Giolitti side. Platforms 25-29 are set further back and accessed by walking approximately 500 metres along platform 24, or directly from Via Giolitti 60. The station has three main levels: the ground floor entrance hall (Forum Termini) from Piazza dei Cinquecento with ticket offices and shops; the platform level with the concourse, ticket gates, and lounges; and the underground level with Metro lines A and B, additional shops, and a grocery store. Roma Termini provides regular high-speed services to all major Italian cities via Trenitalia (Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca) and Italo (NTV), as well as daily international night train services to Vienna, Munich, and Geneva via OBB Nightjet. The Leonardo Express runs direct to Fiumicino Airport every 15 minutes. Two Rome Metro lines (A and B) intersect at Termini metro station on the underground level, and Piazza dei Cinquecento is a major bus hub with dozens of routes.

RFI information desks in front of the platform turnstiles. Trenitalia and Italo each have their own ticket offices in the main hall. Tourist information desk (Roma Capitale) near the stairs to the food court, connecting Via Marsala and Via Giolitti entrances. Open 09:00-01:00.
Trenitalia FrecciaLounge: opposite platforms 3-4, for Executive class and Business Salottino passengers or CartaFreccia Gold/Platinum holders. Open daily. Complimentary drinks, snacks, free WiFi, power sockets. Can add lounge access for 20 EUR when booking any Trenitalia train. Italo Lounge (Casa Italo): first floor in the retail block, for Club class passengers. Access from 3 hours before departure. Smart and Prima class can add access for approximately 12 EUR.

Getting to the Station
metro
Colosseum: 2 stops on Line B (approximately 5 minutes)Rome Metro lines A (red/orange) and B (blue) intersect at Termini metro station on the underground level. Metro accepts contactless bank cards โ tap in and out at the gates.
Metro is the fastest way to reach most central Rome attractions. Line A goes to Spagna (Spanish Steps), Ottaviano (Vatican). Line B goes to Colosseo (Colosseum).

Piazza dei Cinquecento (in front of the station) is a major bus hub with dozens of ATAC city bus routes, including express lines 40 and 64 to the Vatican area. Night buses also serve the square.
Express bus 40 is the fastest bus to the Vatican/St Peter's area. Bus 64 follows a similar route but with more stops.
train
Fiumicino Airport: 32 minutes via Leonardo Express (14 EUR)Leonardo Express direct non-stop train to Fiumicino Airport (FCO). Departs every 15 minutes during the day from platforms 23-24. Trenitalia regional trains connect to other Rome stations including Roma Trastevere, Roma Ostiense, and Roma San Pietro (14-minute walk to St Peter's Square).
For Roma San Pietro station (near the Vatican), take a Trenitalia regional train โ departs every 30 minutes, journey time 19 minutes.

Taxi rank at Piazza dei Cinquecento in front of the main entrance. Licensed white taxis with meters.
Fixed fare from Termini to Fiumicino Airport is 50 EUR. Always use licensed taxis from the official rank โ ignore touts.

Uber and other ride-hailing apps available in Rome. Pick-up points on surrounding streets.
Uber availability in Rome can be limited compared to other European cities. Licensed taxis are often more reliable.

Fiumicino: approximately 55 minutes by bus. Ciampino: approximately 40 minutes.Airport shuttle buses to Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA) airports depart from Piazza dei Cinquecento, in front of the station.
Leonardo Express train is faster and more reliable than buses for Fiumicino. For Ciampino, the shuttle bus is the main option.
Accessibility
Sala Blu (Blue Hall) assistance service for passengers with reduced mobility, located next to platform 1. Requires at least 48 hours advance notice. Contact RFI Sala Blu or book via the Trenitalia website/app. Assistance includes help boarding and alighting trains, navigating the station, and reaching platforms.
Floor guidelines for visually impaired travellers throughout the station halls. Wheelchair accessible elevators and ramps provide access to all platforms. Height-adjusted ticket counters available. The station is large โ walk from the main entrance to platforms 25-29 can take 10-15 minutes.

Arrive Early โ The Station Is Huge
Roma Termini has 32 platforms. The walk from the main entrance to platforms 25-29 can take 10-15 minutes. Arrive at least 20-30 minutes before departure. Platform numbers are often announced only 10-15 minutes before departure on the information boards.
Know Your Platform Zones
Platforms 1-24: main concourse, most high-speed and long-distance trains. Platform 1 is on the Via Marsala (left) side, platform 24 on the Via Giolitti (right) side. Platforms 25-29: regional/Lazio trains, accessed via a long walk along platform 24 or from Via Giolitti 60. Leonardo Express to Fiumicino departs from platforms 23-24.
Watch for Pickpockets
Roma Termini is a busy station. Keep valuables secure and bags zipped, especially when boarding and in crowded areas. Do not leave belongings unattended. Be wary of unsolicited helpers at ticket machines.
Validate Regional Tickets
If you have a paper ticket for a Trenitalia Regionale train, you MUST validate it in the green or yellow validation machines on the platform before boarding. Failure to validate results in a fine. This does not apply to e-tickets or high-speed train reservations.
Luggage Storage at Platform 24
KiPoint staffed luggage storage is at platform 24 (Via Giolitti 40). Open daily 06:00-23:00. Items are X-rayed. Can be very busy during peak tourist season (April-October) โ allow extra time. Maximum 20 kg per item, 5-day limit.
First Floor Food Court
The first floor above the main hall has a food court with a wide selection of Italian dining. The underground level has a grocery store for stocking up before your journey. Trenitalia FrecciaLounge (opposite platforms 3-4) offers complimentary drinks and snacks for eligible passengers.
