Milano Centrale - Milan Station Guide
Milan, Italy
Piazza Duca d'Aosta 1, 20124 Milan, Italy
Approximately 04:00 - 01:00 daily
Milano Centrale is Italy's second-largest railway station and one of Europe's most important rail hubs. Located at Piazza Duca d'Aosta in northern Milan, the station handles over 320,000 passengers and approximately 500 trains daily, connecting travellers to destinations across Italy and Europe. Inaugurated in 1931 and designed by architect Ulisse Stacchini, the station is renowned for its monumental Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture, including a vast arched trainshed with a clear span of 72 metres. The building operates across three main levels: the ground floor (Level 0) houses ticket offices, the KiPoint luggage storage facility, shops and the entrance to Milan Metro lines M2 and M3; the mezzanine (Level +1) contains additional retail and an accessible restroom; and the platform level (Level +2) holds all 24 tracks, the FrecciaClub and Italo Club lounges, and the Sala Blu assistance service. All platforms are on the same level with easy level access between them via the circulating area behind the buffer stops. Ticket gates control access between the main concourse and the platform area - scan your ticket barcode to enter. Milano Centrale serves as the Italian terminus for international services including TGV to Paris, EuroCity trains to Switzerland and Germany, and Nightjet sleeper services to Austria. Domestically, Trenitalia Frecciarossa and Italo high-speed trains connect Milan to Rome in under 3 hours, Florence in 1 hour 40 minutes, and Venice in 2 hours 25 minutes.

Platform Numbers Appear Late
For Trenitalia trains, the exact platform (binario) is typically posted on departure boards only about 10 minutes before departure. You can check planned platforms in advance at viaggiatreno.it or the RFI live departures page by selecting Milano Centrale. Italo trains are not shown on viaggiatreno - use the Italo app or station screens instead.
Ticket Gates Between Concourse and Platforms
Ticket gates control access between the main concourse (Galleria Commerciale) and the platform circulating area. Scan your ticket barcode to enter. Exit gates open automatically as you approach. If you need to buy tickets, machines are available both before and after the gates.
